Putting an end to all speculations about its cheap 4G data offerings, RCom has announced its 4G LTE data plans. And before you get excited I would like to tell you that none of the RCom 4G tariff plans can be called as an affordable offering.
So
you need to recharge with these expensive (for CDMA users) data packs if you
want to access internet on your mobile phone. As of now the prepaid CDMA users
who migrated to RCom GSM have to recharge with 4G data packs
even if they want they don’t need high-speed internet access.
You just can’t recharge with 2G data packs as of now. I tried doing the same via RCom website and by
visiting a store, but it failed.
RCom 4G Data Packs For Prepaid Users
It
was widely anticipated that Reliance Communications would launch dirt cheap 4G
data packs for its CDMA subscribers who were migrated to 4G LTE as RCom shut
down its CDMA services on May 31st.
The
main cause of such speculations was the fact that RCom used to offer high-speed
CDMA data (known as EvDo) at very competitive prices. 1.5 GB prepaid data pack
having a validity of 28 days used to cost Rs. 123, while the 3 GB pack was
priced at Rs. 149. Here were RCom’s CDMA plans as earlier
In contrast to this, 1 GB 4G prepaid data pack
valid for 28 days is priced at Rs. 252, 2
GB @ Rs. 449, 3 GB @ Rs. 655, 5 GB @ Rs. 851, 7 GB @ Rs. 1,049, and the 10 GB
pack @ Rs. 1,349
This is comparable to what other leading telecom operators are
offering. For instance, Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea all have their 1 GB
4G data pack close to the ballpark figure of Rs. 250.
The
jumbo 10 GB 4G data pack cost Rs. 1,350 approximately for Idea and Airtel at
most places whereas it is priced at about Rs. 1,500 for Vodafone. RCom is also
offering 10 GB 4G data @ Rs. 1,349.
Here
is the detailed 4G data
plans comparison of Airtel
vs. Vodafone vs. Idea.
RCom
4G Data Plans For Postpaid Users
RCom
has also announced its 4G data plans for postpaid users also. And it costs a
bomb.
1 GB postpaid 4G plan costs Rs. 300 for month,
2 GB @ Rs. 500/month, 3 GB @ Rs. 700, 5 GB @ Rs. 1,100, 7 GB @ Rs. 1,450 and 10 GB @
Rs. 1,850. This sounds like a lot of me because usually the postpaid plans are
cheaper, or at least at par with the prepaid plans.

4G LTE Now Being Rolled Out To WiPod Users In Maharashtra
Just
after its launch in Mumbai, RCom data card users were able to access the RCom
LTE network on their Wi-Pods across Maharashtra telecom circle.
During
our indoors Speedtest check, we got download speed of 29.45 Mbps, upload @ 3.11 Mbps while the ping was limited to a
reasonable 39
ms for an LTE network.
The
network also offered very good speed in the parking at 7.27 Mbps for
download, 2.61 Mbps upload, and 33 ms ping
Note: The Speedtest results are taken via the mobile app using WiPod SIM so
we can test the network at various places.
We
also inquired about RCom 4G roll-out for mobile users and got to know that it should be
available to mobile subscribers in phases within a few days.
Note:
RCom LTE Speedtest results were shared by one of our loyal
readers from Pune, Amey, who blogs at technoclever.
